Episode III : Revenge of the World
December 27, 2005My dear husband is a big fan of the Star Wars movies. So, I helped him finish out the collection for Christmas. We were watching Episode III: Revenge of the Sith the other night. I have to say that I enjoyed this movie so much more than the first one that came out in the 70’s. The special effects have really gotten impressive.
One scene in the middle of the movie hit a chord with me. Anakin and Padme are having a serious conversation. Padme says,
“What if the democracy we thought we were serving no longer exists? And the republic has become the very evil we’ve been fighting to destroy.”
It makes me wonder that if our country’s founding fathers came back today that they wouldn’t have a similar reaction. Albeit, the wars may look different. But are we not loosing the very essence of the foundation that our country was built upon? In the name of freedom, we are loosing that for which they fought. The freedom to do what is right and good.
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” – Galations 5:22, 23
But rather, the population wants to be free to do all sorts of evil. “It’s my right!” they shout.
“You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love.” –Galations 5:13
Praise God that even though the world may want to enslave us with their evil deeds, we can find freedom in Christ. I don’t know of any other answer to the growing war between good and evil, but to “fix our eyes on Jesus” and live as we have been called to live. I so often fall short of this goal. But lately it is being impressed upon me that I must be even more diligent.
