Pray

March 31, 2008

Last week I played around with Photoshop a little bit and came up with this bent on the “Vote” icon.

I despise politics.  But the politics this year are even more despicable to me than ever before.  There doesn’t seem to be much we can do except pray.  So, this is my campaign.  Vote or don’t vote.  It’s all in God’s hands of providence as I see it.

Take the button if you want and post it on your own blog.  And pray!

It’s Fundamental

March 31, 2008

I read a small section from The Christian in Complete Armour again last night and it really struck me.

In your study, learn the basic precepts of Christianity before you tackle the larger issues. As children, first we go to grammar school, then we go to college; first we learn the facts, then we study concepts. Your spiritual education is not so different. [...] I sincerely believe a poor foundation is the reason many are not steadfast today. Dear saint, do not be too proud to go back and learn the basic precepts of the gospel if you have not yet mastered them.

It’s interesting that this was first written in 1655 and we still have this problem today. It’s interesting that I did not know the basics for a long time! And I still feel as if I am not completely solid in many areas ~ which may contribute a little to my fear of talking to unbelievers about what I believe. And, it’s interesting that William Gurnall sees this lack of fundamentals as contributing to our ability to be steadfast in our faith.

Must think on this more…

7 Random Facts

March 20, 2008

Julie tagged me to share 7 facts about myself. Hmmm, I’ll have to think about that for a minute. Here are the rules below, however, I don’t know who to tag so if you feel the urge to list 7 things about yourself, considered yourself tagged and leave me a comment that you are playing along.

1. Link to your tagger and post these rules on your blog.
2. Share 7 facts about yourself on your blog, some random, some weird.
3. Tag 7 people at the end of your post by leaving their names as well as links to their blogs.
4. Let them know they are tagged by leaving a comment on their blog

So… without further ado, here are 7 random things about me.

1. I moved 1600 miles away from home a couple of months after graduating from college without having a job, a place to live or knowing even 1 person.

2. My husband is 4 years younger than me. We met at church in a class on how to study the Bible inductively.

3. I started sewing “officially” when I was 8 years old through a combination of my mom teaching me and my local 4-H club.

4. My first real paying (not my dad giving me some quarters) job was in High School as a dishwasher for a local restaurant

5. I love the outdoors and outdoor activities, but I hate being sweaty.

6. My husband and I are very specific about the way our coffee is made in the morning. A French press, 36 grams of freshly (less than 10 days old) roasted coffee beans, steeped in water that is 196 degrees for 3 minutes… makes a perfect cup of coffee every time.

7. I received an “F” for a grade in a class in college.

P.S. #8… My husband has a very corny sense of humor… and I married him! ;-)
